my baby boy… 4 weeks old

*** i am a little behind… here is his one month pics! 2 month to follow!
Baby boy got his 2nd Hep-B vaccine today, so he’s been a pretty fussy baby all day. I tortured him for a few minute to try to get at least one ONE month photo. I didn’t have time yesterday and our weekend is pretty packed, so I knew I wouldn’t have time then. I know my ability to procrastinate and didn’t want to be stuck taking his 1 month photos late!

Of course.. I have “mommy goggles” and have a really hard time picking which ones I want to show you.

I took a few with his sock frog, just so we have something to compare his growth to… he loves his frog.

I wanted to get a picture of both of us. It wasn’t an easy task and nothing really turned out… poor screaming baby. As soon as I picked him up to calm him down he puked all down my shirt!

4 weeks and 1 day. Such and amazing 4 weeks and 1 day!

Pumpkin carving and cute kids

Last year I began a new little tradition with my group of friends… football and pumpkin carving.

This year I planned the same shin-dig. Except this year I had it in my house and my sweet baby boy was a part of it. Though, I didn’t get a pic of Beck with his pumpkin. And now the pumpkin is rotten. Yeah. I suck at documenting baby boy’s first October! ha!

I did take a few photos during the day. Mostly of the carved pumpkins and the cute kids running around. At some point some one looked around and said “Where the hell did all these kids come from?!” Just a few short years ago we would have all been well on our way to drunk while watching football. Now too many of us have muchkins to take care of!! Having said that, I did actually have my 1st (and 2nd) beer since January! Yum.

Here are a few of my favorite photos from the day.

And of course there was pumpkin carving/painting and pumpkin fights:

Here are the final pumpkins that found their home on my front porch. So pretty. Unfortunately they are already rotting!

I love this time of year and I am sad that October is over already! It means the weather will be getting colder, it will be darker earlier and my days home with my little man are quickly passing me by. Sad face!

Tomorrow night Beck and I will celebrate his 1st Halloween. He will have no idea what’s going on, but don’t think that won’t stop me from using him for candy!!

I love halloween!

Yes, I have a newborn.
Yes, I actually managed to complete 2 Halloween projects that I found on Pinterest. (to the person who created Pinterest, please shut it down. asap. I have wasted hours and hours of my life on your site!)

anywho… Before Beck was born I found this super cute Halloween banner that I fell in love with. About 2 weeks before Beck arrived I spent the evening on the couch with some scrap book paper and a glue stick and created this…

Photo & Video Sharing by SmugMug

I really wanted to make a couple more, but those might have to wait til next year! I am still happy with how those came out!

The next project were these AWESOME Halloween Jar Lights

I bought the jars weeks before Beck was born, but didn’t start the project til last week. Fortunately I have the most amazing baby who naps and I was able to finish these in just a few hours. I am totally in love with them. I really want to make more, but canning jars are seasonal at my Walmart and they are now out of these jars. I have 12 for now, but next year I want more! Plus I have had numerous request from friends for jars of their own.

Look how awesome!

camera fun with Beck

Today Beck was laying in his bed and he looked so cute in his bright trucks, boats and helicopter onesie… So I grabbed my camera and a chair and started snapping. I took these shots with the intention of doing this, even though they aren’t spaced perfectly I think it turned out cute.

Hopefully soon I can post a blog that isn’t about that precious baby. I actually have completed a craft project or two I want to share. But for now, baby updates is what ya get!

He’s here!!

Finally! A quick post to share my little man with you guys.

Beck was born last Thursday… 8lbs 3oz and 20″ long. I could get into the nitty gritty about the birth… but I won’t. Just know that pushing for 3 hours and not sleeping for 36 hours is something I don’t recommend! But, in this case it was all worth it!

For now I just want to show you my precious little man. Y’all… I love this baby. Love, love, love. And I kinda want to eat him. I think that’s normal right?!

Sorry for the iphone photos. Soon I will have a link to Amanda’s blog so you can see him through the eyes of a professional! She photographed his birth and I can’t wait to see the memories she captured for me while I was drugged up and loving on my new little one!

Beck’s nursery!

Ok folks… I FINALLY dusted my camera off and took some pictures of Beck’s room. As of yesterday it was still a construction/garbage zone!

There are several things that are not complete, but those will have to wait. I have run out of time and energy!

I also need to thank some folks for making this nursery possible! If it weren’t for Michelle, Jamie and Lee, there is no way this room would look like it does. I can’t express my love enough for these folks and all they have done for me. We are so lucky to have such loving friends in our life! Also, I have some amazing art and decorations thanks to my talented friends and family!

Beck’s bed  came to me courtesy of Aunt Deb. The bedding is from Target and I bought it before I even knew that Beck was a boy. I saw it and fell in love with it. The other elements in the room match it perfectly! The glider was passed on to me from Michelle and I know I will probably spend the next year in it! The Robot Blanket came from Robert and Haven as a mother’s day present. This blanket is the reason I decided to go with a robot themed nursery. Finally… the amazing art work above the bed came from my sweet friend Shandon. I found something similar online and commissioned her use her creativity and make this. I adore it.

Photo & Video Sharing by SmugMug

Beck’s room is shaped a little odd, so I had this small bit of wall space next to a closet. The “B” came from Ann. Amanda and Deb framed my baby shower invite and I thought this would be a great place for it. The “B” frame was made by a coworker, Alicia. I can’t wait to put a photo of my little man in it! The cute little robot men came from several folks at work. They were made by some of the clients of some of the mental health facilities we service. Every year Studio by the Tracks holds a fund raiser where these talented people’s art is sold. I love that part of Beck’s room is decorated with art from people SPS helps every day. Finally, a photo of my sweet mom. She can’t be here to see Beck grow up, but he will definitely know who that lady in the picture is!
Photo & Video Sharing by SmugMug

The next photo shows you some of the unfinished projects I mentioned… This is the window seat that Lee built for us. It is exactly what I wanted! It has lids that lift and tons of space for toys inside! It still needs more paint and a cushion for the top. I am scheming on using that blanket from the bedding set to make the cushion, but that requires me to break out the sewing machine. I am just not feeling it at the moment! . On each side of the window are built in closets. They are perfect for Beck’s clothes and diaper storage! I replaced the gross bronze handles with some nice brushed silver ones.  There are also curtains for those windows, but they have been taken down so I can shorten them. Please ignore the painters tape on the floor and the box of garbage in the picture! This photo wasn’t thought out very well!!
Photo & Video Sharing by SmugMug

The next pic may be my favorite thing in the room! The mirror came from Craig’s list and was painted white. The BECK banner is a creation by my very talented Aunt Deb! (Beck will at least know what his name is!!) The book shelf makes me smile every time I see it. Until it came to me, it lived its life in my Granny’s house. I have no idea how long it’s been around, but it’s at least as old as I am. I have many photos of me as a little girl with it in the back ground. I am pretty sure the story is that my grandpa built it***. I did paint it so that it would match the other white furniture in the room. (I wish I could convey the HOURS I spent playing with the sea shells and ceramic cats that adorned these shelves. Or reading the Child Craft books that lived in the bottom corner. Though the cat and the child craft books now adorn my own living room bookcase!)

Photo & Video Sharing by SmugMug

The bookshelf has a TON of great things on it, but the one I want to point out the most is the bottom left square…
Photo & Video Sharing by SmugMug

Those pop up books are very special… they came from Beck’s Great Grandmother. Especially for him.
Photo & Video Sharing by SmugMug

How sweet is that?!

I am so glad I got this documented before Beck’s arrival. I was afraid I wouldn’t get it done in time. I know once Beck is here, the last thing I am going to care about is taking pictures of his room! I am gonna have a precious baby boy to photograph instead!!

-m

***I received an email from my Aunt Linda (my mom’s sister) after this posted with this info: “Yes,  the bookshelf was built by daddy when I was a little girl.  I want to say he built it while we still lived in Illinois so that would put it in the early 60′s. It was originally blond, then at some point painted that dark brown.  Everything looks great, can’t wait to see it in person. I remember the day Donna and I found the note with the books mom had bought for you. It was just a few days after she died. We both had a good cry.  So glad you have kept them, granny would be tickled.  Hope Beck makes his arrival soon!”

hey everybody. it’s almost over.

I am having a baby… in less than two weeks….

aghhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh

It’s been almost a month since I have been here to post anything. I really don’t have all that much to say except what is written above!

I am eagerly (and miserably) awaiting the birth of my sweet baby boy. I can’t wait to see his little face and fingers and toes. I know I will miss feeling him move inside of me and will probably spend many a night wishing he were back in my belly. But, oh… I can’t wait for all the adventures we will have in this new life. This pregnancy has changed my life for the better. I have many moments of “ohmygodwhathaveidone”. I am sure I will have those moments for the rest of forever.

I have been pregnant this ENTIRE year. It’s crazy to think that the year is almost over, and I will be celebrating the rest of it with Beck. I am excited about being off work for 10-12 weeks during my favorite time of year. I know I won’t be able to participate in all of my normal fall activities because of a newborn, but I do plan on enjoying the time off with him anyway. The weather is playing tricks on us right now in the south with cooler fall weather. I can’t wait to spend afternoons on my porch swing, enjoying the weather and rocking my sweet little man.

I have been so lucky to have fantastic friends/family surround me and love me and help me during this time of change. I have really fell in love with my friends all over again. Without these people, I do not think I would have survived! I have also been able to weed out people who were really never my friends to begin with. It’s been a sad process in that aspect, but it makes me appreciate my amazing friends so much more!

Change is tough. This year has been full of it. But the changes that have happened and continue to happen are in the best interest of me and Beck. I am so excited to see what our future holds and I look forward to every single change that happens in the process. I will forever do what is best for me and this kid, no matter what the people around me think I should do. That’s the great thing about being a momma. You take care of your babies and tell the world to kiss it!

holycrapinlessthantwoweeksiwillhaveababy.

I can’t wait.

brian & amanda, waiting on layne

My best guy friend from highschool is soon to be a daddy!

Brian and I met and somehow became the best of buds in highschool. We pretty much did everything together for years. I have a million memories of concerts, beach trips, passing notes and laughing more than two people should ever laugh!

2.5 years ago Brian married Amanda in one of the sweetest wedding ceremonies I have ever attended.

Earlier this year I received a phone call from Brian. It was not long after I had made the announcement to my family that I was pregnant. I could tell from the giggle in his voice that he had heard the news. (He was college roomies with my cousin Matt, so I assumed that’s how he found out.) After apologizing profusely for not telling him myself and using my morning sickness as an excuse he said… “it’s been pretty crazy around here too…Amanda has been throwing up for about 12 weeks too!” We then spent the next 10-20 minutes giggling and congratulating each other and comparing due dates. Amanda is due a couple of weeks before me and now the race is on to see who has the 1st baby!

Last Sunday I dropped by their home to get a few maternity photos for them and take some detail photos in the nursery. I am so thrilled for both Amanda and Brian and can’t wait to meet Layne!

It’s been a LONG time (um, end of April) since I have picked up my camera and taken photos for someone besides myself. It was pretty interesting to switch my brain into camera mode again! Here are some of my favorites from the day.

The story that goes along with this is too cute not to share…
Amanda suggested that they make each other gifts for their 1st Valentine’s day together. Brian drew this for Amanda. Amanda fixed Brian’s computer chair. Guess who won the most brownie points? Now this sweet token of love sits in Layne’s Winnie the Pooh themed nursery. How sweet is that?!

Photo & Video Sharing by SmugMug

As long as I have known Brian he has been called “Hatch” by everyone! (His last name is Hatcher.) When I saw this book on the book shelf all I could do was laugh. Amanda said it was the 1st book she bought for the baby when they found out they were expecting. Perfect for baby Hatch!

Photo & Video Sharing by SmugMug

As I spent some time in Layne’s room it was easy to see the love that Amanda and Brian have put into the details to make it perfect. When I found out how many home-made items Amanda worked on this summer for the nursery, I was instantly impressed (and super jealous of her talent!)

That Diaper holder, crib bumper and crib skirt were all hand-made by Amanda! Not to mention the curtains, Layne’s name above the bed and the basket liners on the book shelf. Every where you look, you can see the love that is poured into the nursery!

Amanda has so many cute monogrammed items, or things with Layne’s name on them.

This one is my favorite though. Both of Amanda’s parents are deaf and Amanda is a teacher of special needs children in a local school system. Remember I said they had the sweetest wedding I have ever attended. Part of my reasoning for that is that the entire ceremony was also signed by the minister for the deaf friends and family in the audience. When I saw this onesie and hat, I was in love! It spells Layne’s name in sign language. Layne will be so lucky to grow up in a bi-lingual household!

I had so much fun hanging out with Brian and Amanda. I haven’t really spent much time with Amanda in the time they dated or in the years of their marriage. I could kick myself for not getting to know her sooner. She is so sweet and perfect for Brian. I can’t wait for our babies to arrive and for the play dates we are already planning!

look! I am fat!

Hi blog world. It’s been a while.

I want to blog all the time, but I really doubt you care to hear about my adventures in couch potato-ing and tv watching. It can be very exciting at times. Like when I drop the remote and I contemplate for several minutes if I REALLY need to pick it up. (I have this conversation in my head with everything I drop. Thank God I can pick things up with my toes. That’s the ONLY reason my floor isn’t littered with random things!)

Being pregnant has been a true test of my sanity. The 1st 16 weeks or so was like the worst hangover I have ever had. I honestly never thought I would quit vomiting! The 2nd trimester was much better, except for my 2 week stint in and out of the hospital. I had so much more energy and did so many fun things! The last trimester has been a slow decline into being truly miserable. I am a go-go-go kind of girl. I like to go visit friends, go on trips, go to walmart, go to the movies, cook dinner, take care of my yard, etc. Currently, the thought of walking across my house exhausts me! It is so frustrating for me to become so incredibly worn out after doing simple chores. I try to remind myself that I am carrying 30+ extra pounds around and growing a person. My dad reminds me that I will be exhausted for the next 18-20 years!

I have gone from “ohmygodiamnevergettingpregnantagain” to “Wow. this is an amazing experience.” There is nothing in this world like feeling a baby foot slide along the inside of my belly. Or the feeling of his butt, or back, or whatever push out and make my belly move. I can’t wait to see his sweet face and kiss his precious toes.

Anyway… I came here to let you know that my sweet cousin Amanda took some maternity photos for me a few weeks ago. I wanted to share my fatness with you all! I have a couple of favorites… my hair was doing some crazy stuff that day, but it will probably never look that good once Beck gets here! I am excited that we were able to capture these memories on my front porch in my awesome swing. I have a feeling there will be a lot of mommy-Beck time spent on that porch and in that swing.

You can see the full post HERE at www.amandapair.com

Amanda’s sweet words at the beginning of the post had me in tears within seconds. I tried to read the post to a friend and couldn’t get past the 1st sentence. My life has been full of craziness and ups and downs, but I love my crazy life! It has made me who I am and I like me. Hopefully my life has prepared me for the child that I have been blessed with.

Please go show Amanda some blog comment love! (and tell me how beautiful and skinny I look!). Amanda is an amazing photographer, if you are in the Birmingham area and ever need a session… she’s your girl!

robot vs frog love

My entire life I have always wanted a froggy nursery. Now that I am having a baby and have a nursery to decorate I have gone with another theme completely.

Robots!

It’s all based on a blanket I found at a local embroidery store that has the cutest robots on it. That blanket matched the bedding I had already purchased from Target. But let me tell you, robots are not easy to come by. And Beck’s room is slowly filling up with the cutest frog stuff. I have always loved frogs and while registering it was impossible not to scan all the cute frog stuff. Also, the people who know me are having a hard time NOT buying frog stuff. My love of frogs came from my mom. I hope Beck has the same love for them. I think the presence of froggy things is a wonderful tribute to my mom and Beck’s Granny. (Which by the way, mom and I always joked that we would call her Granny Kermit! How’s that for frog love!)

I think Beck may just have to have a dual themed room! haha! Robot Frogs maybe?!

My friend Shandon is creating some robot art work to go above Beck’s bed. My friend Bree says she is painting a robot for his room also and my friend Rene has plans on making a bookshelf that is decorated with pages from children’s robot books. So, amidst all of the frog stuff that is slowly taking over, there will be robots too! Atleast on the walls.

Anyway, I decided on Sunday to stay in my pjs all day and do some crafting. I had an idea to try to free hand cross-stitch a few little robots to frame and hang on the wall. So I broke out my tackle boxes (yes, like fishing) full of thread and got to work. (One belonged to my mom and she filled the other one up for me one year for christmas. Tackle boxes are perfect for holding thread. Better then any craft box I have ever seen. Once mom died, I inherited hers. I will never run out of DMC thread!)

I tried to take photos as I progressed, but pretty much gave up on that!

I do love that I still have these scissors that belonged to my mom. I know they belonged to her, because she taped her name to them. Y’all, she lived alone! I don’t know why she put her name on them! But every time I see them and her hand writing I smile!
Photo & Video Sharing by SmugMug

Here is the 1st little guy I finished. I was pretty impressed with my self! He’s only about 3 inches tall and took me a couple of hours to complete. I am pretty indecisive when it comes to what colors to use. I finally decided on the multi colored thread you see in that second photo. That’s what gives him the faded look.
Photo & Video Sharing by SmugMug

Then I had an idea to try this… and it turned out perfect!

Photo & Video Sharing by SmugMug

I am very excited about how these turned out. I found some really cute frames at Bed, Bath and Beyond that will be perfect for these little guys. I plan on doing 2-3 more and grouping them under this awesome green wall clock I bought for Beck’s room.

I have cross stitched for most of my life. My mom taught me how when I was about 5 years old. It’s always been something I enjoyed to do and spent countless summers at my Granny’s stitching away. It’s been many years since I have spent an entire day working on something. My fingers are blistered and my forearms hurt from the repetitive stitching motion, but it those cute little robots are all worth it!
