WPC 2011 – week four – colors

When I say that this weeks photo challenge was “colors”, I knew exactly what I was going to do. (Which is a first in a month of “electricity, “joy” and “control”) My week 4 photo challenge is directly related to buying a home.

I sign the papers today. I take ownership of my new home. For a few weeks now I have been staring at paint samples from Lowe’s and Home Depot trying to decide what colors I want in my new home. Currently, the walls are covered in some REALLY obnoxious colors. YELLOW in the living room, RED in the dining room,  and PLUM in the kitchen. It’s the plum I can’t deal with. Of course, all I have done is choose some equally obnoxious colors to replace them. But at least these are MY obnoxious colors.

I took a few moments a few days ago to drag all the samples out and arrange them on my aunts dining room table. I got a few shots that I really liked. But this is the one I am submitting. It’s not perfect, But that Green Gecko will be what covers up the plum. Or maybe the Chopped Chive. (Have I mentioned I am indecisive. And the painting begins tomorrow!)

(I also can’t help but share the other shot I liked. The colors from Home Depot were not my favorite, but made for some pretty colorful shots.)

Life has been upside down and crazy this week. I am so excited to be signing papers today! Here’s to my new home, this wonderful life and a crazy 2011.

WPC 2011 – week three – control

I have thought ALL week about how to capture “control.” Several people chose great shots of remote controls, or the Ctrl key on a key board. Others had really creative perspectives on things they can or have had to control in their lives. (Spending money, talking, etc…)

I had no idea how to capture Control.

Tonight my cousin and I cleaned out “our” closet. Can you please imagine what a closet would look like if 3 women had to share it? Yes, it was bad. So I snapped a few photos to show out-of-control. (like an entire bed COVERED in shoes.) But, when I sat down tonight to do some editing, something caught my eye. Actually 2 somethings. Cadbury creme eggs. mmmmmm. These things could very easily become my downfall. I am so thankful they aren’t available year round. I would eat them year round. Everyday.

I bought 4 last week and somehow managed to have 2 left. I took a million or so pictures of the eggs but didn’t like anything I came up with. So, I bit into one. Then I snapped this…

Well, not exactly. I took about 5000 pictures of a half eaten egg. THAT, people, is control. Only when I was happy with the shot did I gobble that chocolate-cream-filled-egg-o-yumminess up. AND I HAVEN’T eaten the other one. Yet.

So there is my week three WPC.

yum!

WPC 2011 week two – joy

When I saw that the topic for week 2 in Shutterboo’s Photo Challenge was JOY, I immediately thought of one person and one picture.

I know that part of this challenge is to take the picture based on the topic in the week that it’s posted. I am going to do my very best to actually follow those rules. But, this picture depicts a kind of joy that resonates deep in my heart.

Reason number one I thought of this photo: her middle name might (or might not) be Joy. Don’t tell her I said that.

Reason number 2: this picture sums up the much-needed escape we took in October perfectly. It is pure JOY.

Taken with the Hipstamatic App on my Iphone 4 in Gulf Shores, AL. October 2010

I kept my eyes open for Joy all weekend so that I would have a new photo for this week. But, here in Birmingham, we shut down for a few days due to Snowmageddon 2011. I wasn’t exactly sure how to photograph 2 days, piled up in bed, watching movies and eating bags of Doritos. It was most definitely Joy… But it’s hard to photograph orange fingers and laziness!

WPC 2011 week one – electricity

So…

My sweet blog friend Brooke is hosting another year of her Weekly Photo Challenge. 52 weeks of subjects to search out, shoot, edit, post and blog about. Last year I stalked her Flickr page and blog, wishing I had found it sooner and participated. When she announced a couple of weeks ago that she was doing it again, I knew I had to join in!

The 1st weeks subject was Electricity. The picture is due every Wednesday. I set reminders on my phone. Every day I thought about what I would take a picture of to represent electricity. I carry my camera everywhere. I also procrastinate. My plan is to have next weeks picture taken well before Wednesday. That way I can post a blog ON Wednesday about it!

That means yesterday I was scrambling for something to take a picture of. This means I was crawling around on my office floor to get a picture to submit…  This also means I am now aware of how much I need to dust/vacuum my office.

So, Here is my photo… Nothing impressive. Remember I am also still using a borrowed Canon 50D. Which I am loving more every day! (I have a feeling my savings account will be plundered soon…)

Click the links above to learn all about Brooke’s challenge. You can start anytime! It’s so much fun to see other people’s POV on things. Plus, It’s nice to get feed back on a picture of a dusty battery backup!
